If your Ahouse sliding gate is banging hard at the fully open or fully closed positions, you’re not alone. This is one of the most common faults we hear about from customers using Ahouse or SD-series sliding gate motors.
The good news?
In most cases, the fix is simple — and you can do it yourself.
Below is the step-by-step process we recommend at Gatehouse Security, plus what to do if the issue continues.
Why Your Sliding Gate Is Banging at the End of Travel
A sliding gate should slow down as it approaches the limit in both the open and closed positions.
If it’s slamming or hitting hard, it usually means:
-
The self-learn cycle was not done correctly
-
The motor has lost its memory
-
The control board settings are incorrect
-
The control board is faulty
This is especially common after power outages, storms, or electrical surges.
First Step: Power Cycle & Restore Factory Settings
Before replacing anything, try resetting the system.
This solves the problem most of the time.
How to Reset Your Ahouse Sliding Gate Motor
-
Turn off the power to the motor at the mains.
-
Wait 10 seconds, then turn it back on.
-
Enter the menu and restore factory/default settings on the control board.
-
Perform a full self-learn cycle (also known as auto-set or auto-stroke learning).
During the self-learn process, the gate will automatically:
-
Find the fully closed position
-
Find the fully open position
-
Set the slowdown distance
-
Save its stopping points
This ensures the gate slows down correctly at both ends and no longer slams.
If the Gate Still Bangs — Replace the Control Board
If resetting and running the self-learn does not fix the banging, the control board is usually the issue.
Ahouse sliding gate motors must use the correct SD-series Ahouse control board.
A failing or incorrect board will cause:
-
No slowdown
-
Incorrect travel limits
-
Hard stopping at each end
-
Inconsistent behaviour after power cycles
After Installing a New Control Board
You MUST perform the self-learn cycle again, or the gate will still bang.
This step is often missed, but it is essential.
When to Replace the Motor Instead
If your motor is more than 10 years old, noisy, or struggling, replacing the complete sliding gate motor may be more cost-effective than replacing the board alone.
Gatehouse Security can assist with:
-
Ahouse compatible replacement motors
-
Correct SD control boards
-
Advanced sliding gate systems with soft-start, soft-stop, and auto-close
-
Professional installation across Australia
